The one and only work and mission of Christ and Christians
We have one task, and it is in conflict with all others. Our task is the continuation of our Lord’s mission: to seek and save what was lost—to save sinners. This is the task for which God the Father planned from eternity past to send His Son to accomplish with all His being. Only this task—which alone is obedience to the will of God—spans every era, every place, and the needs of every person and situation. We must not allow ourselves to seek space for other priorities—no matter how necessary, good, or even “Christian” they might seem—for these will only and always destroy the work of God and deceive us about who He is and why He came.
Jesus Christ did not come to transform cultures, societies, or nations. He did not come to “do justice” or make anything great again. He came to save one person: you, your neighbor, your enemy. Only this is greatness. Only this is justice. Everything else is loss and oppression. Everything else is an act of turning one’s back on the vulnerable—of shirking true responsibiity—for the sake of an unexamined fairy tale. Do not be misled just because your fairy tales come wrapped in respectable packaging and have the reputation of being clear-eyed wisdom. There is a wisdom which is mere foolishness, but the wisdom of God is unintelligible to such as these, for His wisdom is known to the child and the pure of heart; God gives it as a gift in His love.
Pray for His wisdom and obey Him daily in the first things you know you must do when you read what Jesus taught and commanded. Obey what He gives you. Be faithful and He will renew your mind so you see the folly of the world’s ways and the wisdom of Christ instead.
